Eyes on Bonn – CDM EB 65 update

CDM Project Standard

Following a first adoption round in September on which we reported earlier, the EB now approved the second batch of proposed CDM standards. Core element of this batch is a comprehensive CDM project standard. It covers all elements of the CDM project cycle from document preparation up to registration. With the new CDM Project Standard, general rules for design and procedure of CDM project development are finally compiled in one central document. Do-inc highly welcomes the adoption of the project standard.

World headed for irreversible climate change in five years, IEA warns

The world is likely to build so many fossil-fuelled power stations, energy-guzzling factories and inefficient buildings in the next five years that it will become impossible to hold global warming to safe levels. And the last chance of combating dangerous climate change will be “lost for ever”, according to the most thorough analysis yet of world energy infrastructure, published by the International Energy Agency.

Smart lights for dark Africa

On Friday 4 November a leading Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf, published an interview with Kim van der Leeuw about  introducing the innovative Waka Waka led light to Africa.

The sustainable Waka Waka LED light will replace dangerous and expensive kerosine lamps, thus reducing carbon emissions and health hazards.

Tanzania headlines: Clean Drinks due to biomass boiler

Edwin Dalenoord and Katrin Heer are currently in Tanzania for a stakeholder consultation meeting at the Mwanza CocaCola Bottling plant. The traditional boiler which uses oil to heat is being replaced with a biomass boiler, with the aim to reduce the bottling plant’s carbon emissions as well as other hazards. The local newspapers picked up on the news as well.

All eyes on Bonn – CDM EB 63 update

The world of CDM policy making is in constant flux. Do-inc therefore closely monitors the ongoing activities of the CDM regulatory bodies, in particular the meetings of the Executive Board.  Under the section “All eyes on Bonn” we will from now on highlight main outcomes of the bi-monthly meetings of the EB and their impact on the work of Do-inc.

Rocket barn for tobacco curing

The curing of tobacco can be made 50% more fuel efficient with the use of the rocket barn. SNV Zimbabwe and Do-inc are exploring with local farmers and tobacco companies how to finance the introduction of this new technology and realize the savings.
